His Hands Ministries, Inc
a
ministry to the homeless of Columbia, SC

The Vision of His Hands Ministries Inc came to C.J. Bilka in 1996 after a former day shelter for the homeless closed in Columbia.  The thought of homeless men and women not having a place to receive mail, take a shower, and not being able to wash or dry their clothes was the driving force.  A non-profit corporation was formed and plans were made to have the Board of Directors run the corporation and establish a day shelter...  A day shelter that would work with the homeless population and the different agencies available to them.  This vision also included training the homeless in the new working environments and helping to provide them with the Christian principles that can be applied to their everyday lives.

In December 2004
HIS HANDS
MINISTRIES INC received 501c(3) status

             ACTIVITIES
There have been many trips to Harvest Hope Food Bank, and many trips to get work clothes.
We have enjoyed hosting an annual Labor Day weekend picnic for the homeless in Finley Park since 2003.  Volunteers from many area churches come together and provide food, fun, and fellowship for those we serve.
In April 2003, we carried 33 homeless friends to see the movie "The Passion of Christ".  Only God knows the work that HE has begun in the lives of the homeless of Columbia.  The core of faithful volunteers will continue to serve these whom God has sent to us.

Volunteers are welcome each Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Suggs and Kelly parking

The  "HOT DOG"  MINISTRY

Since October 2002, HIS HANDS has served hot dogs, chips and drinks every Saturday at the corner of Huger and Hampton Streets to an average of 125 people per week. This was the result of one woman and her friend commenting that it was difficult to find something to eat on Saturdays.  She came every Saturday until she received a bus ticket to Greenville, found a job, got her driver's license and her own apartment.  She is doing well in her new job, and the service she inspired is doing well as we serve food dependably to those who count on us.
